Emma Downey
Registered Psychologist (she/her)
I am dedicated to providing a warm and non-judgmental environment where my clients can feel comfortable to share their experiences in a supportive space. My therapeutic approach is calm, compassionate, and tailored to my clients' unique needs, and I understand the importance of meeting my clients where they are on their journey. I enjoy working collaboratively to support my clients in overcoming challenges and achieving their personal goals. My approach is grounded in the belief that everyone deserves a space where they can feel safe, valued, and supported in their journey, and sometimes that can start with being heard by just one person.
I have experience working with complex and often intersecting presentations, including trauma, complex trauma, attachment difficulties, family and domestic violence (FDV), sexual trauma, anxiety, depression, alcohol and other drug use, and involvement with the criminal justice system. I recognise that people come to therapy with rich, varied, and unique histories, and I am committed to working alongside them with sensitivity, patience, and respect.
I incorporate evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Schema Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
I work predominantly in supporting adults as they navigate life's challenges, however, I also work with adolescent clients aged 16 and above.
